Wellscan at CMH
CMH Radiology now offers a new service:  WellScan at CMH.  WellScan provides comprehensive screenings of the heart and lungs or full body using state-of-the-art CT technology.

Heart and Lung Scan:

Who can benefit from this type of screening?
You are someone who may benefit from a heart and lung scan if you:

  • Are over 50 years of age
  • Have a family history of heart disease
  • Have high cholesterol
  • Use or have used tobacco in the past
  • Struggle with obesity
  • Have known heart disease and would like detailed information about the condition of your heart
  • Have any known cancer site

What does this exam show that a normal chest x-ray would not?

  • This exam uses state-of-the art CT technology to show an extremely clear 3-D picture of the heart and lungs.
  • The images show calcium present in the vessels. Calcium buildup in the blood vessels can be a precursor for heart attacks. The calcium levels are scored by special software in the machine’s computer. Your score will be reviewed by a board certified radiologist who will compare it to what is considered a normal score.
  • The radiologist will sit down with you after your exam, explain your results and give you a copy to take home with you.

Do I need a physician’s order?

  • You do not need a referral from your doctor, however you will be asked to provide the name of your primary physician so a copy of your report can be sent to him/her.

What does this cost?

  • The heart and lung screening is $250.00. Insurance does not cover the cost of this exam but payment plans are available.

For additional information or to schedule your screening, call CMH WellScan Services at 410-414-4782

Whole Body Scan

Who can benefit from this type of screening?
You are someone who may benefit from a whole body scan if you:

  • Are over 50 years of age
  • Have a family history of serious illness such as cancer
  • Have a known disease of the heart, lung, bowel, liver or kidneys
  • Use or have used tobacco in the past
  • Struggle with obesity
  • Have been diagnosed with a known cancer in the past
  • Are feeling poorly and want to take a look at your overall body health

What does this exam show that a normal x-ray would not?

  • The state-of-the-art CT technology is designed to show early signs of disease process while there is still time to take lifesaving preventive measures.
  • This exam uses a contrast dye that allows the radiologists to clearly see the condition of your blood vessels and the blood supply to your vital organs.

What happens during my exam?

  • A technologist will explain the procedure to you when you schedule your appointment.
  • You will be asked not to eat or drink for 3 hours before your scheduled appointment time.
  • Before your exam, an IV will be started so that you can receive contrast dye during your exam. The dye is very safe and is routinely used in CT scanning procedures. If you are allergic to iodine, you will not receive the dye.
  • During your exam you will lay on a padded table that slides through the CT Scanner.
  • A radiologist will review your exam results with you and give you copies to take home with you. A copy of your results will also be sent to your primary physician.

What does this cost?

  • A whole body scan is $450.00. Insurance does not cover this service, but payment plans are available.

For additional information or to schedule your screening, call CMH WellScan Services at 410-414-4782
