CMH receives workplace excellence awards (September 15, 2008)
The Alliance for Workplace Excellence has named Calvert Memorial Hospital a 2008 Workplace Excellence Award winner. CMH also received the Health & Wellness Trailblazer award. Other honorees included Allstate Insurance, Marriott International, Post-Newsweek Media and Verizon Wireless.

Fellowship-trained neurologist joins CMH staff (August 11, 2008)
Dr. Eric Floranda has joined Chesapeake Neurology Associates and the active medical staff at Calvert Memorial Hospital. The fellowship-trained neurologist specializes in the diagnosis and management of neuromuscular diseases such as peripheral neuropathy, myasthenia gravis and Lou Gehrig's disease.

Calvert Family Care now in Solomons (August 4, 2008)
Dr. Kenneth Villar and Dr. Leena Kodali have opened Calvert Family Care in the Solomons Medical Center.
They provide compassionate, family centered care for patients of all ages.
The new practice is affiliated with Calvert Memorial Hospital.

New medical group joins hospitalist program at CMH (July 10, 2008)
Maryland Inpatient Care Specialists (MDICS) has joined the adult hospitalist program at CMH. The Annapolis-based medical group specializes in caring for patients while they are in the hospital. They are available throughout the day to speak with family members to explain procedures and test results.

"Fishing for a Cure" tournament July 23 (July 1, 2008)
Angling for a great fishing trip? The July 23 charity tournament hosted by Bunky's Charter Boats in Solomons is a sure bet. Proceeds will benefit the planned expansion of the Infusion Therapy Center at Calvert Memorial Hospital. The center cares for patients with cancer and other chronic conditions that require intravenous (IV) medications and treatments.

CMH board chairman elected to MHA (June 27, 2008)
Owings resident Dean Schleicher was elected to serve on the Maryland Hospital Association's Executive Committee at the group's annual membership meeting earlier this month. Schleicher is currently chairman of the Calvert Memorial Hospital Board of Directors.

Calvert hospital unveils 30-minute ER pledge (June 25, 2008)
Calvert Memorial Hospital announced this week that it is rolling out a 30-Minute ER Pledge: emergency patients will begin to receive treatment within 30 minutes of arrival at the hospital.

CMH nursing chief honored for community service (June 23, 2008)
Calvert Memorial Hospital Chief Nursing Executive Robert McWhirt was among the six nurses from the DC, Maryland and Virginia region recognized at the 2008 Nursing Spectrum Excellence Awards Gala earlier this month. McWhirt, who is vice president of patient care services at CMH, took top honors in the community service category.

CMH ER chief nationally recognized (May 23, 2008)
The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) has recognized Calvert Memorial Hospital's Chief of Emergency Medical Services Dr. Kraig Melville as a "Hero in Emergency Medicine" for his significant contributions to emergency medicine, his community and his patients.

Shaw named CMH Employee of the Year (May 20, 2008)
Mike Shaw, a physical therapist in rehabilitation services, was named by Calvert Memorial as Employee of the Year for 2007. Other honorees included PR Director Kasia Sweeney who won the hospital's Beacon Award, presented to the manager who exemplifies outstanding leadership skills.

Six local physicians were recognized by Calvert Memorial Hospital for their leadership and service to the community. The honorees were Dr. Harry Kerasidis, Dr. Mark Kushner, Dr. Kraig Melville, Dr. Manbir Singh, Dr. Debra Spatz and Dr. Gyan Surana.

Calvert Surgical Care opens office (May 5, 2008)
Board-certified general surgeon Dr. Steven Quigley has opened a new office in Prince Frederick. He has been in practice for over 20 years and specializes in laparoscopic surgery. These minimally invasive techniques generally help patients recover more quickly and are often associated with less pain.

Campaign launched to enroll low-income uninsured residents (April 17, 2008)
Next week, Calvert Healthcare Solutions will kick off a countywide campaign to enroll low-income residents who are uninsured. The push is part of "Cover the Uninsured Week," a national public awareness effort to focus attention on the uninsured and to bring together those who are interested in finding solutions.

CMH offers new prostate cancer treatment (March 25, 2008)
About one third of local men diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer could benefit from a new treatment option now being offered at Calvert Memorial Hospital. Clinical studies show the minimally invasive procedure - called brachytherapy - compares favorably with conventional alternatives with few side effects.

CMH designated as Primary Stroke Center (March 3, 2008)
Calvert Memorial Hospital has been designated a Primary Stroke Center by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) - recognizing that CMH meets or exceeds the requirements set by the state for effectively treating strokes.

Smith named VP of human resources (February 6, 2008)
Calvert Memorial Hospital has named Calvert County resident Lynn Smith as Vice President of Human Resources. Smith, who has 20 years experience in the field, including positions at hospitals in Maryland and Virgina, most recently served as HR director for AARP in Washington, DC.

Qualified area students in Calvert, Anne Arundel, Charles and St. Mary's counties are encouraged to apply by April 15 for one of the scholarships awarded by the Calvert Memorial Hospital Foundation.

CMH hosting Feb. 10 event to benefit SAFE program (January 21, 2008)
The Calvert Memorial Hospital Foundation is hosting a wine tasting event on Sunday, Feb. 10 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. at Vincenzo's Mediterranean Grill in Solomons to benefit the local Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) program. The funds raised will be used to purchase high tech equipment that provides highly detailed information that can lead to better prosecution.
