Extra parking brings welcome relief
Patients and visitors to Calvert Memorial will find parking much easier when 372 more spaces are added this summer. The addition represents the first phase of a major expansion of the hospital set to begin in the fall.

 “The lack of parking is a frequent complaint,” said CMH President and CEO Jim Xinis, “ which is why the new spaces will be constructed first.”

Construction will be completed by August. At present, there are 832 spaces. The additional spaces will address the current shortfall of 150 and meet future needs when the expansion is completed.

When the new parking lots are finished, the site will be prepared and the helipad relocated. Then work will begin on the main structure in October. The entire project is expected to take three years.

According to Xinis, the courtesy shuttle will continue to operate. During peak hours, volunteers circulate the surrounding lots in a covered, six-seat cart and provide those who need transport with a lift to their destination.

The new spaces will be located near the hospital and the adjacent medical office building. Other patient parking is located adjacent to the CMH Annex. There are lots specially designated for maternity and surgery patients near the hospital’s main entrance.

Visitors should enter the campus at the traffic light at Stoakley Road. Additional signage is planned to assist you in finding parking easily. When leaving, you can either use the north exit near the medical office building or turn south at the traffic light.

“Drop-off” areas are located at the main entrance to the hospital and in front of the medical office building. Our staff is available to assist you when you arrive or depart. “Our goal is to make your visit as convenient and pleasant as possible,” said Xinis.
