| Thompson named CMH chaplain
Rev. Dr. Alice V. Thompson has been named chaplain at Calvert Memorial Hospital. She brings 20 years experience in pastoral care to her new position.
Thompson has worked in many different healthcare and educational settings, including the Washington Hospital Center, Children’s National Medical Center, National Institutes of Health and For the Love of Children Learning Center in Washington, DC.
“We are very pleased to have someone with her knowledge and skill,” said CMH President and CEO Jim Xinis. “Our staff and patients will certainly benefit from her involvement.”
Thompson says she takes particular pride in having established a pastoral care department at Riverside Hospital, which serves troubled children in the District. She also worked at the Center for Life Enrichment counseling families in recovery and providing therapy to special needs children.
“It has been a rich journey that has stretched and challenged me,” said Thompson. For the past 15 years, she has provided services to persons affected by the abuse of drugs, HIV and AIDS.
“Everyday, we face the challenges of promoting the inclusiveness and dignity of all people in light of ethical issues and shrinking resources,” she said. “But I am committed to the ongoing needs of the local and global community.”
Thompson has published or has been cited in articles relating to suicide, end-of-life and HIV/AIDS. She obtained her doctor of ministry from Howard University School of Divinity. Thompson is a non-denominational minister who resides in Fort Washington.
She is also trained in the use of bibliotherapy, a therapeutic tool that uses words to facilitate healing and promote growth and recovery. |
