CMH golf benefit nets $61,000 for equipment
The 16th annual Benefit Golf and Tennis Classic hosted by the Calvert Memorial Hospital Foundation netted $61,000. The proceeds will be used to purchase equipment for the new Emergency Department now under construction.
The new ED, when completed, will be three times its current size. “The extra space will allow us to add beds, new technology and many special features,” said Jim Xinis, CMH President and CEO, “that will improve the patient’s privacy and comfort.”
Registration will be completed at the bedside and there will be a nearby café with drinks and light snacks for family members. Each of the private treatment rooms will have a TV, telephone and will be wide enough to accommodate a family member in a comfortable chair. There will also be a separate pediatric waiting area.
“We’re especially grateful to our corporate sponsors,” said Xinis, “particularly Lanier Worldwide Inc., who was our major sponsor.” Lanier has been a sponsor of the event since 1996.
Some 58 sponsors including physician groups, hospital vendors, county businesses and individuals participated in this year’s event. Xinis applauded local supporters All American Ambulance, American Radiology Services, Bank of America, Capital Foods Services, Dippel & Company, Freedom Office Products, Kaine Homes, Wanda and Michael King, Mercantile Southern Maryland Bank, Pat Petricko/Remax 100, TSI Exterior Wall Systems, Show Place Arena and Wise Pool and Spa.
Xinis also thanked Bayside Toyota for sponsoring a hole-in-one contest and Community Bank of the Tri-County for donating golf balls for the participants.
According to Xinis, since the tournament began, it has raised more than $520,000 to buy medical equipment at CMH. He praised the 2005 Golf and Tennis Committee chaired by Pat Petricko and the auxiliary volunteers headed by Janet Allyn for their outstanding efforts in organizing the event.
“All of this would not be possible without the commitment of these very dedicated individuals,” he added.
Xinis extended special thanks to Julie Cornellier and Steve Harrer who coordinated the putting contest, to Syndy Martin who organized the door prizes and to Kara Harrer and LeAnne Barton who coordinated the tennis event.
The picture perfect day drew 166 golfers and 12 tennis players to the Old South Country Club. As always the competition was fierce. Taking first place in Division I was Larry Sanders/RCMD. The DM Group capped the top slot in Division II. |
