CMH website now more “e-friendly”
Recently, Calvert Memorial Hospital made changes to its website – www.calverthospital.com – making it even more “e-friendly.” Many of the new features, such as directions to CMH facilities, were made in response to feedback from the community, according to Kasia Sweeney, director of public relations and marketing.
“Our goal is to help visitors find what they need quicker and easier,” said Sweeney. “The new, modular design is better organized and dramatically improves navigation.”
Other changes or interactive tools include downloadable forms to apply for a scholarship or to volunteer and an on-line gift shop where visitors can view items to purchase such as flowers, balloons and stuffed animals and have them delivered to patients.
Additionally, Sweeney said, the website now provides links for visitors to contact departments directly to ask a question or request more information. “More publications are now on-line such as the Family Birth Center guide and the Surgical Services information booklet,” she said.
The community can also review highlights of the hospital’s current expansion project and will soon be able to take a virtual tour of the new Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department and Outpatient Concourse, as these areas are constructed.
In order to continually improve the website, Sweeney said, the hospital is looking for volunteers to participate in a focus group. Volunteers must be regular Internet users. They will be asked to use a computer to navigate the CMH website during the two-hour meeting. Interested persons can call the public relations department at 410-414-4523.
The Calvert Memorial website, launched in 2000, offers nearly 500 pages of information and averages about 5,300 visitors per month. Most often, they are looking for a job, trying to find a doctor or searching for information about health services or wellness classes. Another popular feature is Family Birth Center babies where relatives can get their first peek at the county’s newest arrivals.
“The website provides many shortcuts to find the information that you need,” said Sweeney. For instance, the CMH home page guides you to major points of interest – like health services, visitor information and the physician’s directory, which can be searched alphabetically or by specialty.
There are also special buttons for the on-line gift shop and the hospital nursery. And e-cards allow family and friends to electronically send a personal message to a patient at CMH.
Visitors can also purchase tickets on-line for the Chesapeake Harvest Ball or register for special events such as the CMH Benefit Golf & Tennis Classic. Additionally, donors can make contributions on-line.
