CMH cookbook raises funds for expansion
The Calvert Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has produced Calvert Goodness, a cookbook filled with 300 mouth-watering favorites from its volunteers and hospital employees. Proceeds from the sale will be used to help purchase digital radiography equipment for the new emergency department under construction.
The digital radiography, which will replace conventional X-rays in the new ED, represents a major timesaver. The new equipment will eliminate X-ray film and allow ED physicians to see images instantly and start treatment.
The cookbooks that sell for $15 are available at the CMH KeepWell Center and the hospital gift shop. It also includes menus and discount coupons from area restaurants.
“The cookbook is both attractive and durable,” said Kim Thomas, who chaired the project. “The bound design certainly makes it easy to use.” Janet Boarman, Deb Clavio, Allen Delaney, Sherry Horn, Barbara Rogers, MaryAnne Schercinger, Marlene Smith and Susan Stevens also served on the committee.
Thomas said the cover is laminated, which means you can wipe it clean of spills or crumbs. The three-ring binder lies flat on counters or tables. The recipes feature easy-to-follow instructions and include notes for making ahead, freezing and reheating.
There is a special section with practical cooking tips, a chart of herbs and spices, a baking guide, microwave hints and even illustrations on how to fold a napkin for that special dinner.
So, if you’re looking for a present with local flavor, a handy hostess gift or a nice thank-you for a great teacher or employee, stock up. After all, it’s for a good cause. |
