CMH golf benefit nets $51,000 for telemetry unit The 17th annual Benefit Golf and Tennis Classic hosted by the Calvert Memorial Hospital Foundation netted $51,000. The proceeds were used to equip the new telemetry unit that opened in June. The 16 additional beds are specially equipped to monitor the heart rate of cardiac patients after surgery. Since the tournament began, it has raised more than $571,000.
This year’s tournament was held in memory of Jack Straubinger, who was an employee of CMH for more than 32 years. “Jack served on our golf committee from the very beginning” said CMH President and CEO Jim Xinis. “This tournament was very special to him.”
“Each year, Jack brought in several sponsors for the hole-in-one prizes,” said Xinis, ”and his department always solicits the door prizes. All of us miss him – he was a good employee and a great friend.”
Xinis added, “We’re especially grateful to our corporate sponsors. Bank of America has played a very big part in the success of this event. They have been a major sponsor of the tournament since the beginning.”
“I’d also like to thank our breakfast sponsor Pat Petricko Remax 100,” he said, “Lanier Worldwide, Inc. our lunch sponsor and TSI Wall Exterior Systems, our masters sponsor.”
Some 63 sponsors including physician groups, hospital vendors, county businesses and individuals participated in this year’s event. Xinis applauded Ryder sponsors – All American Ambulance, American Radiology Services, Wanda and Michael King and Ober, Kaler, Grimes and Shriver.
He also recognized Open sponsors – Amgen, Amick Medical; Armstrong, Donohue, Ceppos & Vaughn, Capital Foods; Cohen, Rutherford & Knight, Dr. Joseph Fastow, Freedom Office Products, KPMG, Lasting Impressions, Leach Wallace Associates, Inc., Marathon Capitol Management, Marshall Erdman & Associates, Mercantile Southern Maryland Bank, ShowPlace Arena and Wilmot Sanz.
Xinis also thanked hole-in-one sponsors Bayside Chevrolet, Buick & Toyota, Bloom Associates, Calvert Recovery and Calvert Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine.
He also praised the 2006 Golf and Tennis Committee co-chaired by Petricko and Jay Fowler and the auxiliary volunteers headed by Janet Allyn for their outstanding efforts in organizing the event. “All of this would not be possible without the commitment of these very dedicated individuals,” he said.
Xinis also extended special thanks to Julie Cornellier and Karrie Wood who coordinated the putting contest sponsored by Evolution, to Syndy Martin who organized the door prizes and to Kara Harrer who coordinated the tennis event.
The somewhat soggy day drew 156 golfers and 5 tennis players to the Old South Country Club. As always the competition was fierce. Taking first place in Division I was Osteo Concepts. Walling & June capped the top slot in Division II and Amico outpaced all contenders in Division III.
