Xinis elected to CareFirst of Maryland board
Calvert Memorial Hospital President and CEO Jim Xinis has been elected to the CareFirst of Maryland, Inc. (CFMI) board of directors. The company is the largest health care insurer in the Mid-Atlantic region, serving just over 3 million members.
“We welcome the experience and fresh perspective that we believe Mr. Xinis will bring to our discussions and decision making,” said Michael Kelly, CFMI chairman of the board.
Xinis was elected to a three-year term on the 14-member board. Members can serve up to six years. He has been president and CEO of CMH since 1988. Prior to that he was executive vice president for Memorial Hospital and Medical Center of Cumberland, Maryland.
“I look forward to working with the board to find solutions to some of the broader healthcare needs of the community,” said Xinis. “CareFirst is the major health insurer in Calvert County. My involvement with the board will enable me to better serve our hospital and the community. It’s important that I will be in a position to collaborate with the community to enhance health care quality.”
He went on to add, “CareFirst is an exciting and interesting company and one that I believe is firmly committed to its primary mission of providing access to quality, affordable healthcare services for its members.”
Xinis is a graduate of New York University with a master of public administration. He obtained his bachelor’s in economics from the University of Maryland. He is a licensed nursing home administrator and a Diplomate of the American College of Health Care Executives.
He lives in Owings with his wife, Debbie and children, Sarah and Daniel.
