Board-certified general surgeon Dr. Seble Gabre-Madhin has joined Dr. Steven Quigley of Calvert Surgical Care in Prince Frederick. In private practice for seven years, she specializes in breast, thyroid and laparoscopic surgery. These minimally invasive techniques generally help patients recover more quickly and are often associated with less pain.

"We are very excited to have attracted someone of her caliber to care for our growing community," said Calvert Memorial Hospital President and CEO Jim Xinis.

The CMH affiliated is located in Suite 210 of the Calvert Medical Office Building. The practice provides the full spectrum of general and laparoscopic surgery for adults and older children. For more information or to make an appointment, call 410-414-9017.

Dr. Sebby, as she prefers to be called, brings broad experience in treating a wide variety of general surgical conditions including breast, thyroid, hernia, gall bladder and colon. Her colleagues describe her as an excellent surgeon with outstanding diagnostic judgment and surgical skills.

"She is a well-trained surgeon and will be of exceptional value in bringing some of the latest minimally invasive surgical techniques to our hospital and the community we serve," said Quigley. "I look forward to working with her."

Dr. Sebby graduated from Yale University and SUNY at Stony Brook School of Medicine and went on to complete her surgical residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. BIDMC is a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School and one of the largest hospitals in New England. It is also one of the top surgical training programs in the country and is consistently ranked as one of the best hospitals in the United States by U.S. News and World Report.

She comes to us from Beebe Medical Center in Delaware, a Level III Trauma Center. As a resident, she also trained at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Dr. Sebby specifically chose to come to Calvert because she enjoys practicing in a community hospital setting. Recently, she was accepted as a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and was notified she will be inducted in October.

"I want my patients to know that I am committed to listening to them and making them feel comfortable," she said. "I also want them to know that I care about them as an individual and will recommend the treatment options that I feel are most appropriate for them."

Dr. Sebby is the mother of a five-year-old daughter and enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
