The Gynecologic Oncology Center at Calvert Memorial Hospital - a collaborative effort with Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore - has opened. The center, the first of its kind in our region, offers women in Southern Maryland the opportunity to be expertly treated for cervical, endometrial and ovarian cancers close to home.

"We are excited to announce that nationally renowned board-certified gynecologic oncologist Dr. Neil B. Rosenshein is serving as the center’s medical director," said CMH President and CEO Jim Xinis.

Rosenshein also serves as director of The Gynecologic Oncology Center at Mercy, a program he established there more than 14 years ago. He previously served as director of gynecologic oncology at Johns Hopkins. In 2006, he became head of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Medical Center.

"The new Gynecologic Oncology Center is another example of our ongoing commitment to provide the best possible cancer care at the local level," said Xinis.

Rosenshein is actively involved in research and has published more than 150 articles in medical journals. In 2007, Good Housekeeping named him one of the top gynecologic oncologists in the country.

Initially, Rosenshein and his team will see patients at CMH one day per month. He will be supported by a nurse and office manager who will coordinate scheduling and patient care every day. Beginning in January, Rosenshein will also perform surgery at CMH one day per month.

The Gynecologic Oncology Center is located in Suite 112 of the Calvert Medical Office Building in Prince Frederick (next to the hospital). For more information or to make an appointment, call 410-535-8272.
