Diagnostic
As part of our mission, Calvert
Memorial Hospital is dedicated to providing quality services
to the people of Southern Maryland. To ensure that mission
is met, we are always looking for ways to improve our diagnostic
capability. Our newly constructed addition to the Calvert
Medical Office Building houses a permanent MRI (Magnetic Resonance
Imaging) unit. In association with West Shore Surgical Associates,
we opened the CMH Non-Invasive Vascular
Lab to aid in diagnosing blood flow problems. We also
provide access to Lab and/or Radiology services at our satellite
locations.

Radiology
Calvert Memorial's Radiology Department provides a full range
of diagnostic imaging with the latest in medical imaging technology.
Services include: computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, nuclear
medicine, mammography, angiography, magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI), and a vascular lab to perform
non-invasive blood flow studies. Permanent MRI services are
available in the addition to the Calvert Medical Office Building
completed in November 2000. Staffed by board-certified radiologists,
we handle most other medical imaging procedures, as well.
Our laser
imaging system produces the sharpest images possible, provides
immediate test results, reduces waiting time for patients
and improves staff efficiency. The laser imaging system is
networked among key modalities for faster access to images,
shorter patient turnaround time and improved equipment utilization.
Recently,
we added a gamma camera that produces sharper, more conclusive
images in half the time. The result is increased diagnostic
accuracy and improved patient comfort. The camera shows slices
of the heart wall in motion that allows the physician to determine
how well the heart is pumping. These scans are typically done
before a patient undergoes bypass surgery or angioplasty to
remove blockages to the blood flow in and out of the heart.
Radiology
services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The CMH Radiology Department serves both inpatients and outpatients.
For information or to schedule an appointment, call 410-535-8318
or 301- 855-1012, ext. 8318.
Depending
upon your insurance, you may be referred to the Calvert Medical
Imaging Center (CMIC) for your outpatient procedures. CMIC,
with three locations, is a complete outpatient radiology service
offering MRI, CT scans, computed ultrasound with color flow
mapping, specialized vascular studies and low dose mammography.
Recently, they added bone densitometry. In just a few minutes,
this sensitive equipment can detect osteoporosis - the thinning
of bones - very early, when it is most treatable.
CMH
Radiology now offers a new service: WellScan at CMH.
WellScan provides comprehensive screenings of the heart and
lungs or full body using state-of-the-art CT technology.
