Emergency Services
When you need immediate medical attention, Calvert Memorial Hospital's Emergency Department is ready to care for you, day or night.
Recently, a 30-Minute ER Pledge was rolled out: the goal is for patients to begin to receive treatment within 30 minutes of arrival at the hospital. Jim Xinis, President and CEO, says, "This is our commitment to the 40,000 people who come through our doors each year -- to provide faster, better care in a more comfortable environment. While patients with life-threatening conditions are seen right away, the changes we've made enable us to treat everyone faster now."
Timesaving technology added during the recent expansion plays a major role in speeding care. A computerized tracking system keeps tabs on what is being done for each patient, minute-by-minute. Digital radiography eliminates X-ray film and allows physicians to see images instantly and start treatment.
Registration is completed at the patient's bedside. If someone does not have insurance, the staff can provide information about local resources available to assist them.
Highly skilled emergency medicine physicians and nurses are on duty around the clock and work closely with the hospital's broad range of specialists and sub specialists.
Specially trained nurses are available to provide individual attention to victims of sexual assault. The S.A.F.E. staff works closely with county agencies to provide accurate information about local resources for counseling and court preparation.
Emergency services also include confidential psychiatric evaluations and referrals 24 hours a day.
When a patient's condition requires immediate transport to a special facility, the hospital's helipad is located right outside the Emergency Dept. exit.
